Boyden Library
2012/01
Architecture, Graphic Design, Print Design
On the morning of Saturday, January 28, 2012, the Boyden Library in Foxborough, MA broke ground. Designed by LLB Architects, the project includes a new addition and renovation of a 1960s brutalist building by Kilman Hopkins Greeley and Brodie. Collateral for the groundbreaking ceremony included an invitation mailer and program featuring a monotone rendering in the town's navy blue color. The typeface Helvetica was chosen to compliment the existing midcentury building and serif font Georgia was also used for its similar proportions. A reccuring motif in a simple broken line hints at the groundbreaking event. During construction, a job sign will be posted at the site, and the layout of information takes it cue from the vertical windows hanging from the clerestory of the existing building.

  • Common Boston 2010
Common Boston is a volunteer organization dedicated to expanding public awareness of the built environment in and around Boston. The idea of the Common Boston 2010 brochure is a balance of rigor and playfulness. Pertinent information for events and maps are set with a tight typographic hierarchy utilizing the DIN font family to compliment the logotype. A friendly and playful font, Sketchetik, is utilized as the display face throughout the brochure for neighborhoods and page titles. Sketchy lines add a bold but balanced graphic element to each spread and complement the lines of the logo and the contours of the display font.
